How BREWTANICA™ Works
Your Score, The Badge Tiers, And How The Community Shapes Both — Decoded.
Your Score, Decoded
Five Components
Your score reflects how you explore, what you contribute, and how the community responds. It's made up of five components:
Badge Points
Every badge you earn adds to your score. Rarer tiers are worth more.
Scan Activity
Each beer you scan contributes to your total.
Encyclopedia Entries
Adding a new beer to BREWTANICA™ counts for more than scanning an existing one. Discovery matters.
Exploration
Every new country you scan in expands your score.
Community
When other explorers engage with your reviews, the community validates your contributions. Organic engagement from the wider community counts the most.
Discovery and contribution are valued higher than volume alone.
Let's be real — where there is a will, there is a way. We do our best to make it difficult to game the system and to make points and ratings matter, but ultimately it's your experience with BREWTANICA™ that matters most.
Badge Tiers
9 Tiers From Amber To Malt Royalty
Every badge family progresses through nine tiers. Early tiers come quickly — mastery takes commitment. Each tier you earn adds its own point value on top of the ones before it.
Thresholds increase with each tier, creating meaningful milestones along the way.
Beer Badge Categories
Dimensions Of Exploration
Beer badges reward different dimensions of exploration — from volume and variety to geography and contribution.
Venue Badge Categories
The Places That Make Beer
Venue badges track the breweries you visit and what you find when you get there — venues in BREWTANICA™ are the places that make beer.
Pattern Badges
The Strategist
Most badges ask you to do one thing well. Pattern badges ask you to do several things at once.
These are compound achievements — they combine criteria across multiple categories into a single challenge. Scanning a specific style across multiple countries, for example, or completing a set that spans types, regions, and volume.
There's no shortcut. You can't grind your way through a pattern badge by repeating the same action. Each one demands a different mix of breadth and depth, and the path to earning one is rarely a straight line.
Pattern badges are where exploration becomes strategy.
Community Validation
You Don't Earn This — The Community Awards It
Your reviews don't just sit there. When other explorers like or comment on what you've shared, that engagement translates into a community validation bonus on your score.
Organic engagement from the wider community carries the most weight. Scores are updated on a weekly cycle — this isn't something you chase in real time. It's a reflection of the value your contributions bring to the community over time.
Quality contributions naturally attract more engagement.
